Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)

Social Support Group (Inner West and South West Suburbs)

The Social Support Group is a service that provides leisure activities to the Arabic speaking seniors. It works to reduce the risk of social isolation by encouraging clients to meet new people, socialise, participate in planned events and activities and hence, lead an active lifestyle.

The program includes structured activities that focus on improving the individual’s daily living skills as well as meeting their physical, emotional and social support needs. Consumers are assisted by qualified Arabic support workers.

Transport can be provided to the centre and back home for those who live in the Canterbury and Bankstown district. A small fee applies.

Flexible Respite (South West and West Sydney)

Tripoli and Mena Flexible Respite Program – Support for Family Caregivers

The Flexible Respite for Carers program offers in home respite care to carers of frail, older Arabic citizens including those living with dementia. Services are tailored to meet individual consumer needs and can be provided in a person’s home.

The Flexible Respite program provides carers with the opportunity to pursue personal interests, or simply to have a break from their care giving role and thereby increase their capacity to continue caring for their loved ones for as long as possible.

Flexible Respite Program Care Coordinators also give much needed support to carers through the provision of information and referral to other service providers where necessary.

Personal Care (South West Sydney)

This service provides individuals with personal needs that include: taking a bath or shower, getting dressed, personal grooming and other things that help them stay safe around your home.

Who can access this service?

  • Seniors aged 65 and over
  • Arabic speaking
  • Living independently

What do I need to do next:

If you wish to receive Individual and/or Group Social Support Services from us, let the My Aged Care Contact Centre know about your preference for the Social Support Program.

  • You can contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to find out about services that will assist you continue to live independently at home.
  • Your carer, family member, friend or other local service provider can also contact My Aged Care on your behalf.

If you speak a language other than English, you can phone TIS (Translating and Interpreting Services) on 131 450 and ask them to contact My Aged Care in your language.

Who We Are?

Tripoli and Mena Association (TMA) Limited is a community based, non-profit welfare organisation. It was humbly established in 1975 by a group of young Arabic speaking migrants. Their main vision was to help people from their community with everyday welfare needs. Meeting these needs enabled the Arabic speaking community to progress and integrate into Australian society.

Since its establishment, TMA Ltd. has expanded and become a unique, little organisation that has achieved big things. Its resource base and service provision are as diverse as the community they endeavour to serve. These resources and services are continually developing to meet the changing needs of the Arabic speaking community.

Our mission is to provide a quality service to the people of our community through a range of services and programs designed to strengthen our community and promote community connectedness, wellbeing and empowerment.


A vibrant Australian-Arabic speaking community by working with you through all the stages of your life, and where no-one is isolated or left behind.

Aims and Objectives

    • To help people from the Arabic speaking community strengthen themselves, their families and their community.
    • To increase the Arabic speaking community’s resilience and build social capital.
    • To advocate for, and empower, people from the Arabic speaking community.
    • To continually meet the changing needs of the Arabic speaking community.
    • To deliver our services according to the principles of Social Justice, Access, Equity, Rights, Participation, Empowerment, Inclusiveness, Advocacy, Respect, Duty of Care, and, Values and Ethics.
    • To provide information, referral and support services.
    • To encourage the preservation of the Arab culture and the Arabic language.
    • To promote and encouragemulticultural and cross-cultural initiatives and activities.
    • To network with, and develop, sustainable partnerships with other organisations and services relevant to welfare provision.
